A super cute hotel, with old style charm. The rooms were very roomy, and clean, and comfortable. I loved the fireplace (they give you a log at the front desk when you check in), and I also loved the decor. The location is super convenient, and within walking distance of the old fisherman's wharf, which has a lot of restaurants, and was decorated for the holidays.

Clean, confortable, and convenient. Located in Old Town Monterey, Merritt House Hotel is a lovely find! It's pricey, as are all things here, but it is child-friendly and quiet. The gardens are spectacular. The complementary breakfast includes fresh-baked muffins and other simple fare are served in a lovely nook off the garden - lovely!
It is a short walk to the bus and trolley stops. There are a plethora of small business restaurants and serivces in the immediate area. Of course, all of Monterey is within reach from here.
We enjoyed our visit here very much, and we shall return again in future!

Not as advertised, uncomfortable room they smelled like smoke and no night staff support.

The hotel is an historic building and the styles of the room are old school but it was something different that I want to experience. It's a 5-8 min to the pier and 5-15mins to the downtown restaurants. The parking is small, they do give a complimentary breakfast, and there is an ice machine where the parking is. It is a fee parking per night and parking is tight if you have a bigger vehicle.
ISSUE: I booked my reservations on Hotels.com but for some reason my reservation didn't show up on their system and it was already paid. The staff were able to give me an upgrade which was nice and I was told by one of the staff that I will not be charge and they will take care of the whole issue with Hotels.com I was told I was only going to be charge for the parking when I gave my credit card info. Then I got a surprise charge on my bank account, I was charge another payment from the Merritt House Hotel. I had to call them to give me clarification of why I was charge and then I am told they refunded it back to me but need to wait 7 business days. A wonderful and homely place with excellent an staff! Stayed here for over two weeks and absolutely enjoyed its location, breakfast and room services. Would highly recommend :)

This place is a dump. There was mold in the coffee pot and when I complained they told me they didn't care because I had booked through a 3rd party. Don't waste your money

This hotel is perfect every time we visit. The honey moon suite is the best, away from the noise and just peace and quite. There is a beautiful patio right outside the room as well.
If you are a coffee person, you might have to skip their continental breakfast.

The room was not bad. Cute enough and comfortable. The staff seemed like the could care less and there was not even a parking space for us. I had to park on the street and not on the street the hotel is on, but the next street over and up the hill. Won't be going back

Stayed there Dec 21-24 last year. Everything seems to be great at first. Didn't bother letting anyone clean our room since we were only going to stay there for 3 nights. I made sure the 'Privacy Please' plaque is hooked on the knob. But on Dec 23, someone came in and cleaned out our beddings, added new towels and etc. When I came in, the first thing I saw was a round not so light red patch on the carpet in front of the bathroom sink (I have a way of seeing things that usually people don't see when it comes to things) where it wasn't there when we first checked in the first/2nd night. What bothered me was, after a long hike, all I wanted was to be warm in bed, elevating my tired legs. While unfolding the sheets, these 2 red blotches of blood caught my eye. Good thing, where I was laying, my hands did not touch it. It was so gross, unsanitary, so unsafe and unsatisfactory. I pulled it out and left in on the floor. Yes, I told the front desk.

We checked into a suite in the historic Adobe house. The furniture and decor were cute; however, the smell of mold was so strong it was difficult to breathe. We tried to switch rooms, but none were available. Leslie at the front desk was very friendly and apologetic. She agreed the room smell was very bad. We asked for a refund so we could switch hotels because the room was not habitable given the overpowering stench of MOLD. We explained it was just impossible for us to stay in the room as we were both having a terrible reaction to the smell: coughing and headache. Jason the owner became verbally abusive and refused the refund. it was clear this was not the first time this happened that someone refused to stay in this room. We wished Jason a nice evening and left the establishment. DO NOT STAY HERE. The website claims the rooms were remodeled, but they clearly need MOLD remediation.
