The Laurel and Hardy Museum

The new site for the Laurel and Hardy Museum was opened on
April 18th 2009, at what was the Roxy Cinema behind the Coronation Hall.


Entry is £4 Adults, Children under 12, OAPS, and Student Union members are £3 and if you are 2 adults & 2 children under 12 you can have a Family ticket for £8.


The new venue is not yet wheelchair acessable, but they are working on it. I will let you know when this is finished.

Tucked away in the tiny village of Ulverston is the worlds only museum completely dedicated to the worlds finest ever comic duo, Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel. Stan was actually born in Ulversten and you can drive to the house where he was born and see the plaque on the wall outside. The museum itself is very very tiny but don't let this fool you or put you off because it is an experience you will long remember and want to visit again and again. We've been twice whilst holidaying in Blackpool, wow now that was a drive. Anyway I digress. Inside the museum you will find walls plastered with photos, theatre programmes, old news clippings and just about every piece of info ever written about or photographed of the two inimitable comics. The jewel in the museums crown though is the tiny 15 seat cinema which they have showing laurel and hardy short films on a continual loop and they're free, all included in the entrance fee which for the experience is nominal. There is a wonderful little gift area and they even have a disabled friendly loo, fantastic check out the website if you have time. The last time we were there they were raising money to get a statue erected of the two legendary comics in Ulverson.

I don't know if there is another of these anywhere in the world. If you enjoy the old Laurel and Hardy films this is a great place to visit. As children we used to think that this was a great rainy days outing (there are plenty of them in the Lake District!) - Where children can just spend ages sitting and watch one of the great Laurel and Hardy films while mum and dad browse the very full museum. There is so much to see and all of it original fascinating stuff. This is the birth town of Stan Laurel and a statue to him will be erected in the town very soon. The museum is in a very small place at the moment but they keep talking about expanding it to somewhere bigger and better.

If you love Laurel and Hardy like my husband does you just have to visit this.Bill Cubin started the one man operation of the Laurel and Hardy Museum,and it just has to be the quirkiest museum I've ever visited.The atmosphere is so relaxed and just about anything and everything to do with Laurel and Hardy is here.The owner is just so helpful and his knowledge of the comedy duo is endless.There is a little makeshift cinema which you can sit as long as you want to watch movies of the two.It's just good innocent fun.
