Formerly known as Trangallan and now rebranded as Tranga, this takes the crown as my new favorite discovery in North / East London. The restaurant serves Galician food (from the northwest corner of Spain), and the dishes are brimming with flavor and spice.
The menu changes seasonally, and we ordered four dishes between the two of us: (1) Cecina DOP Cured Beef, (2) Tempura Romana Courgette, (3) Solomillo Iberico Rice, and (4) Pardina Lentils. Each dish contained incredible, uncommon flavors; the Lentils, for example, had a uniquely sour zing that elevated the entire dish. The Tempura Courgette (Squash) was perhaps the best tasting squash/zucchini I've ever had; a light batter with a thoughtful arrangement of aioli and toasted almonds. And as the last course served, the Solomillo Rice capped off the dinner sublimely with a deep, earthy umami that reminded me of mushrooms and truffle.
What better to pair excellent food with a sensible glass of wine? We opted for two glasses (one white, one red), a wonderful complement to the lentils and solomillo rice.
The mood is relaxed, rustic, romantic - as if in a Spanish countryside. Wonderful setting for an evening rendezvous.
I'm already longing to return, this time to sample some new dishes, revisit a prior favorite or two, and importantly, enjoy dessert.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paul L.Hong Kong396223 mai 2018
Really sad to see this restaurant close down! We used to live right next to it and it did seem busy. The staff were always friendly and knowledgeable and the polpo was absolutely killer.
From TimeOut: "Trangallán, we learn, is a word from Galicia for a kind of bohemian ne'er-do-well. And this little former shop certainly has the right bohemian feel"
And that's the perfect description... kind of sad to think perhaps the bohemian ways needs to give way to capitalist reality.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Information sur le responsable du commerce

Hi Paul,
Just wanted to let you know that we are well and truly open for business as usual! I know it's been quite some time since you posted your comment, but thought it worth replying, and hopefully you'll be able to pop back in for some polpo again soon! :) - Jennifer S.Londres, Royaume-Uni4654658323 sept. 2017
I popped by here today around 1:30pm, purely by chance as I was wandering around the area. I love the interior with its unpolished wood floors and walls and 40s-era furnishings dotted throughout. The menu is limited (and a bit pricey for tapas at around £8/dish) so I opted for the sauteed kales with peanut praline, croutons and bay milk. The dish was plated perfectly and yes is small (at £7.90). The kale was soft and buttery and the accompanying sauce really enhanced it. I enjoyed it but it wasn't the best thing I've ever eaten. I have to give kudos to the waitress though for being so good with service and being very cheerful. A rarity in London indeed.

Trangallan is a very nice find. On of the few top food places I can reach by food. Special guests or in need of funky tastes and good wine? They serve brunch and dinner, mostly tapas style dishes, often also some big stews to share. You can trust their menue! It changes due to season and the chef gives everything a noticeable individual note- well balanced and with width and depth of flavours.
Recommend the bread and oil at the side, the tortilla for the hungry and than discover- 3-4 dishes for two persons is good to start with.
The desert plate is fun. (2-4 small things) and I especially like it with the green drink included (ask for it).
They have also a few tables outside and a big room downstairs, proper for parties.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ben D.Londres, Royaume-Uni7473625 oct. 2018
I'm just dropping by to say that I had the best tortilla espanola I've ever had at Trangallan last night. It was a work of art. I also had some beautiful mackerel and some carrots which tasted like no carrots I've had before. I shall return!

This is some of the best tapas I have ever eaten! We spent a good few hours here, ordering a couple of dishes at a time, and sharing each dish.
The highlights for me were pork cheek (succulent meat and crispy skin) with thyme and prunes, grilled squid, Almond soup and home tinned sardines, and some AMAZING potatoes with caramelised onions and raw egg.
The service was a bit slow at times, but I think they are still getting over a few teething issues after recently opening. A meal for 4 people including 2 bottles of Rioja, a couple of beers and service came to £130. Highly recommended!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Josefine B.Newington Green, Londres, Royaume-Uni3127224 mars 2015
We ate there last Sunday and it was fantastic. The vegetables wich accompanied the perfect meat were to die for and especially the fresh mushroom dish was delicious. Do recommend and will certainly eat there again.

It always amuses me to read reviews of tapas places where people complain about the portions being small. It's tapas; the whole point is that the portions are small! I'll admit it's not the cheapest tapas place you'll go to but every dish i had there was utterly delicious. I went with my girlfriends family (7 of us) for lunch and it worked out at about £30 per head, which seems pretty reasonable to me. So, no, it's Not a place to pop for a cheap bite but if you want delicious (small plates of) tapas, then I'd highly recommend it.

We went couple of weeks ago with a friend bidding from Paris. The food was unique and delicious. We ordered squid ink rice, beef tataki, tortilla. Everything was delicious and prices very reasonable. Between three we paid approx 28 per head this includes 4 wines and a sherry. Definitely one of the best Spanish places.
