Huge rooms in this gallery for this viewing of Warhol's work. It had a very industrial feel that complimented the subject matter.
Other than one room with paintings around the walls there were two huge rooms with one focus piece in each. The environment did not distract you from the art for sure.
This was a hard subject matter to view. I left fulfilled at seeing it and yet depressed by the subject matter. I had to focus on the effort Warhol used to create each piece of art. There may be hidden meanings beyond my comprehension. I prefer his other work. This was a side of his art I did not realize existed. I was just thrilled to be in the room with his art work!!
Very friendly employees at Venus Gallery. We had s nice conversation. He told me how to find them on Yelp. He thought it was nice that I review art galleries. It is a fun thing for me to do. I love art!! Not very knowledgable, but enjoy it just the same.
I'll gladly return to thus gallery when I'm in the building. I look forward to seeing what and who is on view next!!Helpful 23Thanks 0Love this 22Oh no 0 - Kyle N.Providence, États-Unis20535919 avr. 2017
Context: Dropped in with my wife while exploring galleries in Lenox Hill. The gallery was full of Bernard Buffet paintings while we were there.
Pros: We found Buffet's work stylish, interesting, and provocative. He had a very strong voice that crystallized with each painting. I appreciate that the curator showcases a different artist every couple of months.
Cons: A bit on the small side. Tough to rival the diversity and size of the nearby Opera Gallery.
Bottom line: A great gallery I look forward to revisiting the next time I'm in Lenox Hill. If you can only go to one gallery in Lenox Hill, go to the Opera Gallery. But if you have time for another, check this place out.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brian D.New York, États-Unis641091416 oct. 2013
I actually lol'ed when I entered this gallery. Raw concrete floors, exposed pipes and other utilities--I'd just entered from a corridor in a very nice Upper East Side office building but suddenly I could have been in Bushwick. Apparently that's the feeling that this gallery is going for, trying to import some grunge style to Madison Ave for cool points.
Unfortunately I can't even remember what the art here was, except that it involved the kind of big messy painting that you would expect to see in such a space. It was like the art was made for the brand of the place and beyond that it's unremarkable. Two stars is "meh" and that was how I felt about this gallery. First lol, then mehHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Eric D.Brooklyn, États-Unis257114 déc. 2012Prem's
