tl;dr: Pretty average Thai food. I think this place will generally not disappoint but also not wow you either.
Ambiance/Service: Quite a small restaurant with very limited seating and long wait times, even up to 1-1.5 hours because of this. Thus, takeout might be a better option.
Food: As a vegetarian, I got the pad kee mao with tofu. I haven't returned in multiple years for this reason. The tofu was hard as a rock, almost inedible, which was a novel experience for me. The flavor for the rest of the dish was all right, but extremely frustrating that a main component was ruined.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 10 mai 2022
We showed up planning to eat in, then saw that they were currently open for takeout only, so placed our orders and grabbed one of the tables outside to wait and eat at. They told us it would take half an hour and that they'd wave at us from the window when it was ready, but after an hour we still hadn't gotten anything, so we had someone go back in and ask, and then the food was ready in a few minutes. Not sure what happened since someone else went in.
I had mixed feelings about the food. I had the Pad Key Mao Tofu. The sauce tasted really good but was too oily for my taste. Tofu was dry and crusty and some pieces tasted burnt. The noodles themselves were fine and there was a good amount of vegetables. Also had a Thai Iced Tea, which had a little bit of a tamarind undertone that I was not expecting and I thought was a little weird with the overall flavour profile. Maybe I could get used to it though? Overall it wasn't an awful experience, but I wouldn't be in a rush to come back if I lived here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle B.Baltimore, États-Unis125342318 août 2022

Phone number is broken. Online ordering is broken. What else is there to say? How do they do business like this.

I was recently in search of a new local Thai restaurant and thought I'd try KhunNineThai.
Typically I stick with my faves, pad thai or pad kra pow at any Thai restaurant but, felt adventurous. On my initial ordering, I tried the Pad Z-Ew (Beef). This wasn't it. :(
Though they gave ample rice noodles, they gave little to none of the other ingredients. The dish barely had egg, broccoli or beef. I was also underwhelmed at the lack of sauce.
Not sure if I'll give them another try.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 3 mai 2021
I was really hoping Khun Nine Thai would be this magical place that could become my go to for Thai food since I live kind of close to it, but I was honestly really disappointed. Ordered take out from here and was told that basically half the things I ordered weren't available... no soup, they only had the pinky for an appetizer, and they didn't have green curry. Idk if this is just because of covid but I find it kind of ridiculous that they literally did't have the ingredients you need to make basically their entire appetizer (small plates) menu and who knows what else from the main menu...
Then, I was told that the wait was 45 minutes. I got there to pick up about 55 minutes later and was told to wait another 10 minutes. I ended up waiting outside for about 20 more minutes before the guy motioned for me to come inside! When I was paying, I'm not sure if I'm mistaken, but the payment required a tip so I ended up tipping for food that I picked up over an hour later!
To top it off, the food wasn't anything special. It wasn't disgusting, but it definitely didn't even make my top 50% for Thai food. I will never be returning here again.
A few more grievances: the door is really difficult to open, I actually thought the restaurant was closed when I first got there but another person that was waiting for their order (and also looked put off) let me know that the door is just heavy. And finally, the website is awful, I wasn't even able to find the actual menu because I kept getting diverted to other restaurant menu's. I finally ended up looking at pictures of the menu on Yelp and Google maps.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2 févr. 2021Avis mis à jour
Shalom is an excellent front desk host who today was very obliging, courteous, professional, and health & safety-mindful!

The accompanying spicy sweet sauce goes perfectly with the crispy duck pieces! Crispy duck is a hard-to-find fave of mine. Finally, I found a spot that satisfies me almost as much as the duck I use to have at a little family-owned, very traditional Szechuan restaurant which operated in Randallstown, MD until it closed years ago. Indeed, Khun Nine's crispy duck comes close to giving complete culinary satisfaction. The service is polite and professional whether you're in the dining room or calling by phone. Will be visiting here a third time & more...!

I tried coming here again recently and was even more disappointed by the experience than the last time. Ordered massaman curry and have gotten it here before -- they usually serve it with the traditional large chunks of braised beef, which I love and is the main reason I like to order that dish. Unfortunately they substituted that component of the dish with no warning; now they serve it with small fried strips of beef -- maybe the same beef they use in their other dishes (?). Although the flavor of the curry was good, the meat was tough and lacked the flavor and tenderness of the original dish (or any other massaman curry I've had for that matter).
In addition to the lack of transparency with the food, Khun Nine is no longer transparent with their prices. My friend and I placed an order over the phone and both noticed upon arrival that the total was more than we expected. They did not give us an explanation or mention the difference in prices in advance of charging us. When we asked about the total, we were told that the online menu prices are not up to date. No apology or effort at fixing the mistake was made. They showed us a couple of the actual prices in their system and all the dishes we ordered were more expensive, but they didn't match the menu on the website OR in the restaurant. So be warned -- you may be charged more than you were expecting, without notice.
Honestly, the flavor of the sauces and curries were pretty good (hence the extra star), but I did not enjoy my food and the whole experience left me feeling like I had been conned -- out of the dish I had ordered, and out of the prices that were advertised.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 09 mai 2019Avis précédentI really wanted to love a Thai place just 2 blocks from my apartment. Unfortunately I'm updating my review because I've had to accept that the quality of the food and the service here has gone down. Don't expect to be able to reach them via phone or online for a takeout order; they appear to turn these systems off regularly with no explanation. If you do decide to show up for takeout, you might be turned away (they once just told me they were too busy).
Most recently, I did decide to walk over after failing to reach them via phone, but the food wasn't as good as I remembered it; the green curry was strangely salty and it felt like they'd skimped on quite a few of the components of the meal (e.g. there were 3 red pepper slices in my dish and they barely gave me enough rice to eat with a quarter of the dish). I'm sorry, Khun Nine -- at these prices, I've had better Thai food, with less hassle and better service.11 oct. 2017Avis précédentThe authenticity of the food at Khun Nine is among the closest I've seen to real Thai food in Baltimore. The flavors of all the dishes that I've had there are quite good, and remind me of the Thai food I've had at some of my favorite Thai places on the west coast.
The serving portions are good and the service is fast. Note that the restaurant itself is quite small, but it's still pleasant and they have outdoor seating as well. If you order take out, your food will generally be ready in around 15 minutes.
Why only 4 stars? The dishes are lacking a little in ingredients -- while the flavors are always on point, their dishes always seem a little bare bones, lacking vegetables or other ingredients to complement the main one or two components of each dish. For example, their chicken basil is delicious, but the ingredient list on the menu (chicken, green pepper, spicy chili basil garlic sauce) is quite literal; the dish is essentially chicken and sauce (tasty sauce nonetheless).
On the whole, this place is good, and I'll return -- but occasionally I'll go elsewhere if I'm craving a rounder meal. - Sharon H.Cambridge, États-Unis43426218049 janv. 2020
Food: 10/10 AMAZING, not heavy or overly oily, seemed like each dish used quality ingredients, some of the softest and chewiest noodles I have ever had at a thai restaurant. However, the portion sizes were pretty small compared to other Thai restaurants for the price. But I fully believe quality over quantity. We ordered the following:
+ crab fried rice
+ pad Thai
+ drunk noodles
Each were so good and very unique in flavor and texture and had their own unique touch to it that makes it stand out from your typical Thai restaurant.
Service: 10/10, waiter refilled our waters every time it was half full, the food came out quickly and we were able to pay and go in under a minute.
Ambiance: uncomfortable and cramped. The place is SUPER tiny, and you will be elbow to elbow with the party next to you. Would not recommend for large groups. However, the place does give off a very romantic vibe and feel like if there was more space, it would be a great date night spot. However, be ready to hear all sorts of conversations around you. Throughout the night, I heard a women tell her story about her promotion today (ayyyyyy congrats!!) and another girl talking about how horrible her boyfriend is and her plot to break up with him (sorry girl, hope things get better), and another listing out all the guys she has dated in the past... But amidst all the conversations, I could barely hear what my party was talking about and was constantly distracted by the noise around us.
Also, the place is BYOB which is pretty cool but also they don't have a bathroom so tread carefully with those drinks!! Overall, I think this place gives its own twist to Thai food, where each dish is packed with flavor and works effortlessly in terms of creating a perfect harmony of texture and flavor. Love the food. Just wish the dining area was a bit more comfortable and spacious.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Satabdi N D.Baltimore, États-Unis10721291 févr. 2020
One of the hidden gems of Baltimore. The food is definitely going to remind you of thailand (if u have been to). The restaurant is small so it would be best to do reservations before going.
The raw papaya salad is a must. Perfectly balanced with flavours and crunch. We also had thai milk tea which is worth the money!
The crab fried rice is amazingly simple but flavourful. Generous chunks of crab meat and egg. The smokiness adds so much to this simple dish. The green chicken curry is exactly what you would expect; perfect balance of sweetness, spice, vegetables and meat.
I am going back for more for sure!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
