La Casa Mexicana

Was surprised to find a small mexican style food restaurant in this part of the city. We stopped to eat here quite late in the evening and the service was very friendly and efficient. I ordered the beef fajitas (there's just something about assembling your own food) and everything was tasty and cooked to perfection. The chips and guac we ordered as an entrée were also good.

It's a very hole in-the-wall place, not too big and a little old on the inside.

Pros
- The atmosphere was ok.
- The food was delicious.
- They have tons of tequila choices and sweet deals on drinks

Cons
- $$ A little pricey
- Small portions

They use canned tomato sauce to make salsa, and nothing here tastes like mexican, looks like they don't know what spice to use to make mexican food.
and this is not cheap either.

DO NOT COME! I felt gross after eating this non-mexican, non-italian, non-french food.

Me and my wife, we came to this spot for dinner. The food was tasty but the portions are rather "small?"
It was last like a "kid menu" for 18.-$??
So I had to go somewhere else ...
I am sorry guys, that was a kind of "entree" the main course that you charged us!

Great mexican food! Authentic mexican fare and the plates are very filling for a very reasonable. Will definitely return next visit!

Plats mexicains excellent! Bouffe mexicaine authentique et les assiettes sont très satisfaisantes et pour un prix très raisonnable. Nous reviendrons certainement la prochaine visite!

Edited to one star: My friend ordered a vegetarian dish and it had chicken. They also ran out of rice for his dish.

Original review: I normally save one star reviews for places that actively try to screw you over. This place came dangerously close to a one star review.

Service is increeeeeeeedibly slow. Came here on a Monday evening when the restaurant was not too crowded. The one waitress was clearly overworked. They actually ran out of cheese which delayed our nachos. How do you run out of cheese at a Mexican restaurant?!?!? An employee had to go buy cheese from a nearby store. From the time of ordering, it took 15 mins for drinks, an hour for appetizers, and 1.5 hours for entrees.

I don't blame the waitress at all. She was very nice. This is completely the fault of management. Do not go here unless you are completely full and are just planning a meal a couple hours in advance.

Btw I typed this while waiting for our food at the restaurant.

It's real Mexican food in Canada. But ... Because it's Canada, portions was very small

Good Mexican food. We ordered Enchiladas and the plate to share on Vegetarian menu.

The chef took care of restrictions that we specified without having an impact on the taste

And the server always had a big smile

A very authentic Mexican resto in Q.C, had the soup and enchiladas and they were excellent. I look forward to going back soon.

I came here with a Groupon voucher, didn't find it very good value. $20 for a pitcher of sangria, was quite small and not the best.
The food was good but not the best Mexican I've had. We had the frijoles & sobrecitos for entree which were both quite tasty, no complaints. For soup I had one with chicken (found 1 piece in there) and my GF had a tomato one - neither were great. For main I had the chicken quesadilla which was okay, but the ones I make at home are better. My GF ordered the vege enchiladas but they came out with chicken - no problem she ate it anyway. Dessert was a churro-style thing, I didn't like it but my GF did.
So even with our voucher for a 4 course meal for two people, we still paid about $50 just for a pitcher of so-so sangria, one glass of wine and a beer. Not good value at all.
All-in-all, it was an okay meal in a lovely little restaurant, but I wouldn't return.

My boyfriend and I are fans of La Casa Mexicana because it is one of a very few authentic Mexican restaurants in Quebec City and eat here whenever we get the hankering for a nice sit-down, Mexican meal. While there are a number of delicious, authentic menu items to choose from, service can be hit or miss and many of the accompaniments are simply bland and dry.

One one occasion, I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and was slightly disappointed. We ordered the guacamole and taquitos to share, and I hade the pozole soup and the enchiladas verdes. I highly recommend the taquitos de carne and the pozole - they were both incredibly flavourful! However, it was quite clear when it arrived that our main courses had been sitting in the window for a while and had gotten rather cold. Additionally, the beans and rice lacked flavour and were unpalatably dry. Overall, I'd recommend anyone in Quebec City with a craving for Mexican to try La Casa Mexicana... While it's not the best Mexican you'll ever have (especially if you have the chance to actually visit Mexico) and the price point can be a bit high, there are definitely some tasty, authentic items worth trying on the menu.
