Even when I am out of state this YMCA does a good job of helping me keep up with my exercising and health. Normally when I am in California, I would be going to the one near my flat but this one is a lot better than I expect. It seems to be a very good place to get fit. The location is also very near where my office is. I can just drive up or ride the bus and go right in. The pool is super nice, right temperature and good place to water walk or swim very slowing since I am a beginner. This is one of three YMCAs I go to in Oregon, the other one is in Albany which is a bit of a long drive. The staff that work here is super nice like the one near my flat. For the days I am in the state of Oregon, this is a great place for the community.
Warning: If you have the wrong kind of membership then you are bound to suffer.

I had taken my 3 year old to Sherwood ymca last summer for swim lessons and was not too far in and already not feeling like this was the right fit, by the end of summer I was so frustrated. The staff looked miserable, if my daughter wasn't paying attention or was not getting it, or scared they would literally just skip her and move on to the kid who clearly knew what they were doing. We even ended up in a class that no one else signed up for so it was basically a private lesson and the teacher tried telling me she should be in the class with moms swimming with them cuz she doesn't want to do what she's trying to teach her, she just wants to play. I had to ask the teacher to be more assertive cuz she said she doesn't want to make her cry by asking her to do the things she's asking..why are we here then!? When we were done with that teacher I would see her come in with her hand over her head to avoid my daughter noticing her and she would do it giggling to the other teacher. So petty. SHES 3 YEARS OLD. We spent so much frickin money and went to maybe 6 teachers/classes and after the 3rd I feel like everyone knew who my daughter was and it was like "good luck with that one". I sent a long email to the swim lead and got no response.

I decided to give another try this summer thinking staffing maybe got better etc but was instantly disappointed. They don't have their stuff figured out.

The new swim lead had reached out to me to do some schedule changing I was like great here we go..
I had panicked thinking I wouldn't get her in a class because only one spot was left for the level she was supposed to be in so I paid for another time

When she figured it all out I asked to have that money back and it was given back as a system credit I said ok I will use it toward the next purchase of lessons
Well unfortunately I do not want to come back for swim lessons here. I had no response to the email I sent about this. Had to reach out. She said she sent it to her boss and if they don't respond reach out to the site manager. No response from boss. I emailed the site manager saying everything, and no response. Had to reach out again, they said oh we refunded you back yesterday. WHAT THE HELL. No one wants to address my emails and concerns of how upset I am with how the lessons are going.

I'm so glad we're not coming back. A lot of others I know have ran for the hills after coming here for swim too. It's a real shame because this is a big name place and they're running it like crap.

I've been a member here before... wanted to open up my membership but, the administration seems to fallen short. Vetran, and a person with a disability. Easy to restart your membership just go online... wrong. I hot a thank you for your service about five times last week.. you have all my info... so can I talk to your supervisor? No she quit... ok. Left 2 messages not a single call back.. great place but I guess Planet Fitness might be a better deal.... hope the W gets it sht together.

We came for open swim for the first time today with a large party made up of 3 adults and 4 children. Unbeknownst to us, we were arriving 30 minutes before open swim ended.

We were charged the full $20 per family for us to swim. By the time all of us were changed and showered, we only had 15 minutes left, which the life guard informed us of.

I immediately went back in and changed and asked the cashiers why they didn't let give us a heads up and say "you might not get much time to swim. It might be better for you guys to wait till the next open swim at 4 pm. That's only an hour and a half away."

I was responded to with snotty smirks and "I'm sorry you didn't know what time it was. If you want you can get a credit on your account and come back later or come back tomorrow.

This was not a good first impression and I don't expect to ever bother coming back. The least they could have done was pro-rated the amount based on how much time was left. Or given a genuine apology and a refund, since they couldn't be bothered to let us know upfront that open swim was closing in less than an hour.

This place is super rad! Everyone that works here has been so lovely, the facility and pools are in top notch shape, it's not what I expected from the YMCA at all (and I don't know why I had all the preconceived notions)
It's cleaner and nicer than all the gyms I've been to, the instructors are engaging and helpful. I really can't say enough good. The one thing I could do without is the sideways looks of the Sherwood/Lake Oswego winery wives in the locker room, where I'm sure I must be committing SOME faux pas. Look Olivia Newton John, doing your hair in 4 inch heels... calm the hell down. This isn't the Equinox - you're at the Y, for chrissakes. But, that's definitely not the gym's fault, and perhaps it says something about the quality of the facilities.
Also, this place gets BUSY, the gym is huge and absolutely can handle it, but when I first arrived (5:30 am) I was cracking up at the football field sized parking lot, well, when I left at 8:15, it was almost full and someone was waiting to take my parking spot. Also funny to note, although completely unrelated: the electronic billboard as you're approaching the stoplight to turn in, obviously funded by a disgruntled local businessman who got one speeding ticket too many, that tells of all the speed traps on the 99. So watch your speed coming in, folks!!!!!

This is a lovely facility - the pool is GREAT for kids. Unless you like lap swim, it is not great for adults, however - except for the lap lanes it is all dedicated to the slide or very shallow. But it's warm, and the shallows slope all the way up rather than stopping at 3 feet. During appropriate swim times (not lessons), there are bubblers and water dropping from the bucket tower in the shallows.

Besides the pool (which is my favorite part of it), there's lots of exercise equipment, ball courts, an indoor track, etc. It's a newer building and very nice inside. Clean. There's child care but since so far our son only goes with us when he's going for swim lessons, we haven't used it.

The staff we've dealt with have been wonderfully courteous and helpful.

And if money is a concern, check out the web site - they have free community swim twice a month, and financial assistance for membership also.

Membership at this Y also includes access to the Beaverton and Clark County - they are all part of YMCA Columbia-Willamette.

Ive been a member here for 12 years and this YMCA is a staple for this community. It has programs for all ages, great people (staff & members), a variety of great classes, a long list of community events, free child care, and a fun pool for the kids. We would love to see it remain and eventually expanded to include a larger pool, possibly outdoor, with more lap swimming lanes. Unfortunately our local politics may cause it to close its doors sooner than later. We can only hope this is not the case as we would most likely not join under new management.

The Y has always been friendly and welcoming. The areas are spread apart so there's never a feeling of being too crowded or lack of personal space.
