Q:
Does the wimpy have any spice to it at all? Will someone who doesnt like any spice be happy with it? Asking for a friend I swear! Haha.
A:
Q:
Which is better--the food truck or new brick and mortar location?
A:
Depends on what type of atmosphere you're looking for and if it's raining. Both have great hot chicken and all the fixings. However the brick and mortar does have a few extra items. It also has happy hour from 4 to 6:30 everyday. Do yourself a… more

This is the food truck located in the patio next to Star Bar. We were there on a Monday afternoon, so there was no line and food took about 10-15 minutes.
Food:
Hot chicken tenders - not too special, barely spicy. I loved the cilantro mint sauce for $.50
Mo' Hot 1/4 dark meat -came with one leg and one big thigh. They were nicely fried, crispy skin, a bit in the oily side though. The spicy level was noticeable yet tolerable
Dang Hot Southern chickeb sandwich - coleslaw and bread n butter pickles gave this sandwich a refreshing, earthy taste. It was the appropriate spiciness for fried chicken with buns.
Verdict: It was my first time trying Hot Chicken (it's from Nashville isn't it?) and I liked it. It wasn't too unqiue, but who can say bad things about fried chicken right?! If you are a spicy-lover yet like to enjoy the flavor of your food, I would recommend either the Mo'Hot or Dang Hot. To be fair I did not try Fire in the Hole so I don't know how that compares.
Tip:
1) This truck closes between 2:30 to 5:30PM
2) Grab a beer from Star Bar next doorHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 25 mai 2018
Why didn't I find this place sooner! I work downtown, and one of my co-workers got some of us to walk to Tumble 22. We ordered online ahead of time, which I loved.
I ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich, which is a chicken breast with kale slaw. I am not a huge spicy fan, so I went with the wimpy version, but there are different levels of hotness depending on your preference. I also ordered a lemonade and a side of potato salad.
Okay, so the sandwich had so much flavor and it was huge! I had to remove the bun after a while because I was getting so full. The potato salad had great taste and texture. And the lemonade was perfect! Not too tart, not too sweet.
I felt like I went on a picnic during my lunch hour!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 11 nov. 2017
I'm drooling on my keyboard while I write this. I think I'm going to need to order again soon. My coworker and I decided to place pick up orders. We placed them online and once of us went to go pick it up. This place has it all figured out. Even for a to go the food was perfect and still piping hot. Granted we are about 10 minutes from this place so my coworker was able to get in and out pretty quickly.
I ordered Chicken Oysters, Hot with Cilantro Mint Sauce. These perfectly breaded and seasoned dark meat pieces where absolute heaven. As I mentioned before they were still piping out and so juicy even back at the office. I vividly remember making a bit of a mess at my desk and had to bust out the Lysol wipes to clean up after. It was a tad embarrassing. I like spicy food but can only have it once in awhile and my threshold isn't very high anymore. I got the hot and it was borderline uncomfortable for me. It burn so good. The cilantro mint sauce was such a perfect balance and added a nice cool feeling to the palate. I thing I could go on and on about this place. I was surprised at the generous portion I got. I only at half and brought the rest home for my husband. He really enjoyed it as a leftover and now wants to go check it out and get his very own fresh batch of hot Nashville chicken.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 25 sept. 2017
Hands down, the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. Solid 10/10.
Tumble 22 is located on the patio of Star Bar. You'd have to enter through the bar to get to the food truck. This place is dog friendly so feel free to bring your furry friends! Tumble 22 has a chill vibe, you can hang with friends if you want to watch a game (they have several flat screen TVs surrounding the patio).
Let's talk about that amazing sandwich: You can order the O.G. Classic Sandwich which is fried chicken breast if you prefer white meat, or the Southern Sandwich if you prefer chicken thigh. You can also choose your spice level, I went with "dang hot" because I love spicy everything. I decided to go with the Southern Chicken Sandwich. It was a lot bigger than I thought. It was SO thick and juicy, tender and crispy, and perfect in every way possible. The slaw and pickles complimented the fried chicken very well. Each entree comes with a side, I got the homemade chips which was pretty good.
I highly recommend this place!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 12 juill. 2017
This joint is unlike any chicken I've tried before. Every bite left me wanting more, the level of spiciness was enough to get a kick after each bite and wasn't to the point where it was not enjoyable
Highlights:
- Located right in downtown off west 6th connected to Star Bar, beautiful view if you eat outside closer to the Star Bar side
- You have the power to choose the level of spiciness (4options I believe)
- The chicken is crispy, juicy, finger licking goodness
- The sides are not the best, they are okay but compared to the chicken, the sides are crap
- The people that work there are super helpful and willing to break down the whole menu for you
- The sauces are fa free!!!!!!
Whatever you do.... if you find yourself on West 6th, you've gotta try this place!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Information sur le responsable du commerce

OMG OMG OMG. It's like I fried and gone to heaven!
No joke - it really is the best damn chicken sandwich I've had, in town, hands down. No clownin' around.
Just an FYI - the Austin American Statesman came out with an article in 2016 listing the Top 10 fried chicken sandwiches in Austin, but unfortunately this was pre-Tumbler 22. I have sampled most all of those "Top 10" candidates and I'm telling you - - none of them come close to Tumbler 22's chicken sandwich. The quality and taste is phenomenal here, it's competitively priced, an impeccable value all round.
I got the OG Chicken Sandwich which came with a slaw and chicken fat fries. I chose to go "Dang Hot" (the 2nd hottest on their scale). First off I was impressed with the size of of the sandwich - - hubba hubba I thought this was the 90's when a sandwich was a real sandwich with lots of meat! The hotness was just perfect for me, it was really crispy and super tasty, and wasn't greasy at all. A lot of chunky white meat just like it should be!
The order taker guy (he said he's practically related to Colonel Sanders) also recommended the Chicken Oysters - which is dark meat fried chicken on skewers, I went for the hottest on their scale called "Fire in the Hole" - - which literally felt like a fire in the hole. It's super duper hot, so if you can't take the heat, then get out of the hole, or stick your head in their ice cooler, or buy an ice cold Topo Chico like I did.. Again, the chicken was super tasty and not greasy, came with some pickles and I really like their creamy slaw which adds a nice cool touch to the palate.
I met the owner and the staff here - - all of them are super duper helpful and nice, very eager to please. I was extremely impressed with their attentiveness and how professional and courteous they were. They have a nice picnic table seating area in the shade with 2 large blower fans to help keep you cool if you're chicken is too hot.
I'm sold. It's really hands down the best chicken in town!Helpful 28Thanks 0Love this 25Oh no 0 - 28 mai 2017
Very solid sandwich... went for the OG - Fire in the Hole sauce. Sandwich came out extremely hot, temp wise... cooked to order and tossed. If you like spicy, go for their Fire sauce, you won't be disappointed. The side ranch sauce left a little to be desired though..
This is a large sandwich, could easily split one if you're not getting super Hangry... slightly on the oily side of things however. Still, I would say it's one of the best, if not the best chicken sandwich out in Austin.
Sit at the middle tables and you can get a cross wind effect from their two giant fans! Eating a spicy chicken sandwich in 100 degree heat might get to you after a few moments... hydrate - or bring a Yeti full of some beer... after-all, beer makes everything taste better!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - 12 mai 2017
I had the chicken breast ($8) served "Dang Hot" style. While the temperature was hot, the spice was not, although it was pretty darn good! The chicken breast comes with bread & butter pickles and shoestring fries that are the skinniest I have ever had. They were excellent. The menu said the breast also comes with coleslaw, however my order was sans slaw. On my next visit I will try the breast "Fire in the Hole" style!
I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a good chicken sandwich or boneless breast. It is far better than Chick-fil-a, JT Youngbloods and Flyrite.
They have a small parking lot (enter off 5th and exit on Walsh) as well as a few free parking spots on Walsh (North side of the street).Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - 19 juill. 2017Avis mis à jour
My first time to their new location since they moved. The new place isn't bad as there's more seating but I think I like the old place for one reason only: parking. Parking I think is worse here, especially during lunch since its so close to downtown, there's limited street parking, which can make it difficult. But having more seating and an accessible bathroom are probably plusses.
I also got to experience their new menu. I have to admit I was one of those who were devastated upon hearing the chicken fat shoestring fries were gone - I really liked the crunch on them with the subtle chicken fat flavor. But what they replaced it with is more variety and equally top quality sides and the ability to just get straight up chicken pieces, so everyone wins.
I got 1/4 dark, dang hot, with potato chips and potato salad. Guess I really missed the potato so I doubled up there. The chips are obviously homemade and hand cut - they give you a generous amount in a paper bag. Just thick enough, just enough crunch, just enough salt. The potato salad stood out my new favorite side though. It's LIGHT - which is really saying something for potato salad. It's cool with ample amount of celery for textural contrast and crunch, with just enough cool mayo to bind it all together. The kale slaw is still great as always too (ate some off my wife's plate). I think if you go dang hot or higher and your spice tolerance is like mine, I would recommend the slaw and the potato salad to help cool you down.
And now that I'm done raving about the sides, lets talk about that chicken. This is what I imagined closer to what hot chicken would be like. Let's be fair, the chicken sandwiches, oysters and stuff were fantastic (and still are), but fried chicken needs to be in whole pieces. It delivers here still: not oily, crunchy, packed with flavor all encrusting juicy succulent well marinated meat.
Oh ya, and one other bonus now is drinks. They now have fresh squeezed pulpy lemonade which is refreshing as it gets on 100 degree days in Austin, tea and water that isn't bottled. That lemonade is ultra crisp, just sweet enough with enough pucker to evoke those summer days on the porch. Which you I guess could experience staring out into the street if you wanted to.
This is dangerous for the people working downtown as even though it was close before, now it's walking distance from my office. Oh and $5 happy hour that easily flows into early dinner makes this probably the best dining on a dime meal you can get in Austin.

Thanks for the rave review and support. We will be sure and share with the team. Hope to see you back frequently!
20 mai 2017Avis précédentThis is the new king of fried chicken in Austin. I've heard the rave reviews and cannot fault this place one iota. They got their act together and they know how to fry some birds.
The trailer is in a small parking lot, which can make parking a bit hard but if you come early or during off hours, not a problem. The staff there are energetic and helpful, whether it be setting up sun shades, or checking up on you while you eat or even providing suggestions if you're new to hot chicken.
And that chicken...it's the way fried chicken should be and even moreover, what every chicken sandwich should aspire to be. The OG chicken sandwich is extremely juicy, moist chicken breast put between a pillowy soft yet firm textured bun that does not fall apart to the huge chunk of meat in the sandwich. Better yet, even after having the darn hot sauce slathered on the chicken, it still retains a good deal of crunch. The kale slaw offers a refreshing element to cool you down as you munch through the hot chicken.
The best part about the chicken though is the palate tingling burn. It's not an in your face make you cry kind of burn, but one that thoughtfully builds as you make your way through the sandwich. The dang hot will provide you a good food sweat, but it's nothing overwhelming and thoroughly enjoyable unlike other Nashville hot chicken I've had. There is so many complex notes of flavor in that chicken that just makes you want to eat more and more of it and smile while you eat it in 100 degree weather.
And the shoestring fries are excellent as well. They have a background hint of chicken flavor from the fat they fry it in but best of all they're crisp and not greasy in the least. They're very munchable and you'll be doing a disservice to yourself to not add it to your order.
It's also a lot of food. At first thought, I didn't think it'd be that big - most food presented to you in a food boat from an upscale food trailer don't give you huge portions, but you'll definitely leave satisfied and full. The chicken is bursting out of the bun and the fries fill in the rest of the container.
Definitely be back for more chicken - maybe try a thigh next time, but its hard to go wrong with the OG. Welcome to ATX, Tumble 22. We're glad you're here. - 551575680028 nov. 2018
I got to a spicy chicken sandwich in California and it was so good I dream about it sometimes. I was really excited to find out that Austin had a famous spicy chicken sandwich place so I decided to try it out.
Coming here it was interesting because they had a food truck but it was next to the bar. It was a little chilly out but the seating outside had heaters so it was still warm.
You order at the truck and then sit down and wait. It was really quick for food. I got the hot flavor and it wasn't too spicy but burned my lips a lot. I think you want to be careful if you have sensitive skin because it did burn quite a bit and made my skin peel for a couple days.
The chicken sandwich was good but not as good as the place I was thinking about. I got both the chicken breast sandwich and the thigh sandwich but liked the breast one way better. They taste the same and both sandwiches were really big and filling. I liked the coleslaw in it because it helped cut the spicy taste but it could use more slaw. There was so little of it I could barely see it.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
