It was a great experience for my first time calling in for pick up! The Mgr who answered was very easy to talk to & friendly. I ordered the Crab Rangoon- Absolutely perfect- especially dipped in their housemade orange sauce! The Hot & Sour Soup was Awesome & fresh! The RED CURRY chicken (ck breast meat!) was perfectly seasoned & spiced! & the Egg rolls were delicious, too! They were very fast & courteous at checkout, too! I will def be coming here again & Again!

My new favorite Chinese restaurant in town! Super friendly staff, and some of the best egg rolls and hot and sour soup I've ever had. Definitely recommended!!
-
Went for lunch to try out the lunch specials. Prices looked good, $8-9 range and selection of lunch plates was really good. I ordered the sesame seed chicken and got an egg roll with it and egg drop soup.
My partner ordered the chicken with vegetable and won ton soup.
My meal wasn't too great of an experience. The sesame seed chicken was blander than I've had anywhere else, no pizzazz to speak of, just below average tasting in my opinion. The egg roll was good though. The egg drop soup was also too bland, little taste and I only made it through half before I gave up..
My partners chicken with veggies was pretty good though and the sauce was very complimentary of the chicken and veggies. He said his won ton soup was good so I guess he got the better end of the stick here.
Not sure I'd go back. If one part of the meal was off, maybe, but how do you make egg drop soup not taste good? I'll think about a re-try. -

I usually do not eat leftovers, but China Cafe is the exception to the rule! Their Sesame Chicken is the perfect blend of sweet and spice, the chunks aren't too big and very juicy. The egg rolls are the best I've ever eaten! I was able to try their fried rice, it is out of this world! They don't overdo it on the egg, and they add what looks like little peppers for a spicy zest. Delivery was fast, about ten minutes sooner than projected! It isn't easy to find good Chinese food, but this restaurant is an ace in the hole!

***I know it's long but just read it***
-Ordering food from here for 2years.
-Ordered at least 30 times, always the same thing(Dr. Pepper, egg roll, sesame chicken&rice)-It's always delivered.
-$20 per order X 30 orders=$600
My Last Order 12/10/2016
-1 hour and 30 minutes for delivery to arrive.
-Egg Roll was stale- took a bite and had to run to the trash to spit it out.
-Soda is Flat
-Sesame Chicken looked horrendous, soggy, watery, and pale looking. Tasted even worse.
-It was like they took all the food off of the people's plates who dined in after they bussed the table and put it into to go boxes and delivered the food to me.
-I got people's left overs. (DISGUSTING)
Worst Part (appalling management)
-I called for a refund, manager was very disrespectfull, his tone and argumentative demeanor. He said that they made the food like they always made the food and that all he could do was give me 50% off my next order.
I said "I'm not gonna eat half the food so I want a full refund."
-He said I would have to drive up there and hand my food back to them.
In 2 years I've NEVER driven to their establishment, I've always had it delivered. But I jumped into my car and drove up there real quick.
-I've spent over $600 with them and they couldn't even give me a refund without arguing and hassling me. They have records of my take out history.
-But the worst part wasn't the disgusting leftovers they delivered to me but the disrespectfull management and the lack of customer service.
-I may never order delivery again cause moral of the story is you Never Know when you could be eating somebody else's leftovers and that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, "literally." -

This place is the worst we spend so much money ordering from this place which personally I feel is over priced and couple weeks ago they forgot my egg rolls and Thursday when we ordered from them the delivery guy walked up to my door leaving a soup trail behind he handed us the bad and soup had spilled all in it all over all the other food it was a literal hot mess there was plastic pieces in my soup from the bowl busting open. Just ridiculous

I just ordered delivery from china cafe and am sick to my stomach.
I ordered crab puffs, an egg roll and sweet and sour chicken. After having some crab puffs, I started the sweet and sour chicken to find a DEAD FLY pasted to the bottom of a piece of chicken! (I almost ate it, thinking it was just a burned piece)
When I called to tell them, the girl apologised and asked what they could do, and I asked for a refund. She asked if I would take credit for next time instead, and I declined... I really won't be eating there again.
She ended up telling me that she would only refund the sweet and sour chicken...assuring me that there hadn't been fly's in anything else...
I told her that I understood, but could obviously not finish my meal... And would like a full refund. She again told me she couldn't because her manager wouldn't let her.
I am surprised at this terrible service, and strongly recommend avoiding this place.

Came in for lunch..first vist..and pleasantly surprised. Ordered the crab puffs and lunch special of chicken and veggies, which came with choice of soup (3 choices) an egg roll and choice of rice (steamed or fried). Everything was very good. The crab puffs were large and the filling was great tasting and an appropriate amount. My soup..hot and sour..was excellent - it had a great balance between the two. My entrée was also excellent: fresh and great tasting. Only con was that there was no brown rice option. Was a great meal and a great deal. Also the service was great. Our server answered all our questions and took great care of us.

AVOID
The single WORST food experience, not just Chinese food experience, I've had since moving to Austin.
If I could give their food a negative star, I would.
It was delivery, so I couldn't send it back. Big mistake.
I'm sure if I would have eaten more than the one mouthful I did I would have ended up in the hospital, but as it was I ended up hugging my toilet for hours. And I'm pregnant, so this could have been very bad.
But the food poisoning wasn't the the only reason for the low score.
The food is just BAD.
The Buddha's Delight was mushy & slimy.
The Shrimp & Walnuts were in a brown sauce, which tasted like it should have been thrown away days ago. As did the shrimp.
The egg roll was 40% grease and the cabbage in it was turning brownish.
Seriously?! -

After more than 12 years as a customer, I now say goodbye to China Cafe.Today I called to place an order for some lunch entrees to go, and, as we always do, I asked to substitute an egg roll for the soup that comes with the meal since I cannot eat the soup. The person on the phone said sure, but there would be an extra charge for that. I was surprised at this, since we've never been charged for this exact substitution in the 12+ years we've been going here. When I stated this (in a puzzled tone), he very rudely replied that he had been working at China Cafe for 20 years, it was policy, and, "Well, you are going to be charged." He was so very rude.
I have no problem with restaurants that have a substitution charge, my issue is that we have never been charged and when I questioned this, I was met with rudeness. No customer service whatsoever. -

My family and I have been going to China Cafe for over 10 years - which basically is all the review that is needed.
For good, fresh "American" Chinese food you can't get any better for the price point. Sure if you want to pay a lot you can go to PF Changs (with the exception of a few dishes, I'm not a big PFC fan) and i like comparable China Cafe menu items much better than PFCs i.e., orange chicken at China is much better than PFs. Shrimp dishes always have fresh good sized shrimp. Their lo mein is the best around. My dad is a full time RV'er and travels all over the country and said he hasn't had better mongolian beef than what he gets at China Cafe. Hot and sour soup is delish and I have had people who don't even like egg rolls say theirs are pretty good. personally I love their egg rolls. I love that their veggies are always crisp and not soggy. My kids are hooked on the sesame options as well.
What can I say CC is my fav for chinese food and I grew up in Austin and have tried them all. -

Solid 3 stars.
Greasy egg rolls thrown on a plate. I used the sweet red sauce and spicy mustard to decorate the plate. It's fun- try it.
Vegetable lo mein and House special bean curd are ok. Nice deep flavors that don't keep well as left overs.
And that's the 3 stars. Not good. Not bad. Eh.
Our waiter had a weird contempt for us. Very courteous yet snide. I TELL YOU IT WAS WEIRD. -

Yum! I had the Sesame Tofu. It was just tofu and rice though, so next time I need to remember to ask them to add veggies. I like variety in my meal. Lunch option comes with your choice of soup, an egg roll, and some fried wontons, none of which are vegan, so I just give those to my husband.

I've been looking for a place that had Cashew Chicken, or Almond Chicken....2 of my favorite dishes. China Cafe has Chicken with cashew and almond, huzzah!! But it is only available on the dinner menu. I believe for lunch they just had chicken and cashew...which is still fine with me!
They do charge extra for fried rice, which is a bit of a bummer, but the egg rolls are really good. The crust isn't thick and over fried. The egg drop soup is a little odd, there's corn in it, but it's still pretty tasty. To be quiet honest, if this place didn't have the chicken with cashew and almond, I probably wouldn't be so thrilled with it. The food isn't out of this world, but it's good.
We've always gone in before a movie and had fast, friendly service. The place is never too crowded and I've never had to wait long for a table or my food. -

I love this place. I have been going here since I was young and rate all Chinese food by it.
The food is tasty and fresh as well as being very reasonably priced . Lunch is a steal at $6.00 for a full order, soup and an egg roll. I normally always get the Chicken Fried Rice since its my favorite, and you will be hard pressed to find better egg rolls, egg drop soup or sweet and sour sauce this side of China. Parking is easy and plentiful and the staff is friendly and always helpful. My whole family has always enjoyed coming here. -

This place has been here since the mid-90's or so, because I remember the first time I went, it had recently opened and I was going to see Batman Forever at the theatre next door.
It's your average Chinese restaurant, but like another reviewer mentioned, it is consistently good. You aren't playing Russian Roulette each time you go in; the food has been prepared well and the same since the first time I went.
The egg rolls and soups are good (best egg drop I've had for a long time), and I order either the beef and broccoli, combination lo mein, or the shrimp and cashew nuts. I've mostly gone for lunch (it was a favorite off campus place for a few of my friends when we were in highschool), and I can say I've only been to their dinner service once or twice.
The portions could stand to be just a tad bigger; when they first began, you were treated to heaps of beef, now it's been noticeably trimmed. The waitstaff has always been extremely friendly and inviting, and I feel actually a little bad I haven't been back in recent times since I used to go quite often.
I've been to all sorts of other Chinese restaurants that have been mediocre, and this place is definitely not. It is a cut above the rest, and it's just fine for casual Chinese fare. Its longevity is a testimony to its consistent quality and neighborhood customer base.
Next time you feel like lunch, try China Cafe! -

I'm a sucker for Chinese food, even the overly-Americanized stuff. I've found over the years that some places may be good for dine-in, but are downright scary if you get delivery. China Cafe is good both ways, even if delivery can get a little expensive due to minimum order and delivery fee.
Appetizer-wise, I like their egg rolls and crab puffs. The puffs actually have a lot of filling, unlike some I've had at other places. It's more cream cheese than crab, but that's actually the way I like it. Won ton and hot & sour soup are good, but the egg drop is weirdly thick.
My go-to entree is *insert protein here* in Garlic Sauce. YUM! The mu shu, Szechuan, and sesame dishes are tasty too, though the sesame is of course the typical 90% fried, battered meat, 10% over-steamed broccoli. The bf is a fan of the combo fried rice and lo mein. I do agree with an earlier reviewer that the orange beef is overcooked. Pity, as the orange sauce itself is pretty tasty.
The delivery drivers are usually pretty cool, though I've had my own run-in with the crazy lady. She's nice enough but rather... enthusiastic? Overbearing? Kooky? I do love that their delivery folks are really laid back about tips. I've had a couple tell me outright that no, I really don't need to tip. Guess what, they're much more likely to get a tip than a surly pizza guy virtually (or actually) demanding one!
Anyways, I love this little place, quirks and all. I've taken out-of-town guests here for dinner and they love it too. It's not authentic and it's not perfect, but I think it's the best that we Northies have available. -

The food here is pretty good. Its your normal Chinese fair, but it is consistently good. I had the shrimp lo-mein and it was average. The house spicy shrimp looked really good, and the egg rolls were the best part. Its a good place to fill your stomach, but not anything to get excited about.
